Chuppahs (wedding canopy)

Chuppah

A Chuppah (also spelled hupah, chupah, or chuppa - plural: chuppot orchuppah chuppahs) is a canopy traditionally used in Jewish weddings. It consists of a cloth or sheet, sometimes a tallit, stretched or supported over four poles, or sometimes carried by attendants to the ceremony. A chuppah symbolizes the home the couple will build together. Chuppah literally means a canopy or a covering. The word chuppah originally appears in the Tanach (Joel 2:16; Psalms 19:5). The chuppah represents a Jewish home symbolized by the cloth canopy and the four poles. Just as a chuppah is open on all four sides, so was the tent of Abraham open for hospitality. Thus, the chuppah represents hospitality to one`s guests. In a spiritual sense, the covering of the chuppah represents the presence of God over the covenant of marriage.
The Chuppah, being an important part of the splendid ceremony of marriage, should be visually impressive to match the occasion. For this reason Chuppahs are usually made of thick velvet or silk. Typically, the Chuppah will also have an emroidery (usually hand-made) the topic of which may be an excerpt or quotation of the Torah, or it can be customized or personalized to suit the couple`s unique interests and occupations.
We at www.kaftorvaferach.com believe that the Chuppa should be a visual counterpart to the spiritual splendor which is the covenant of marriage. The embroidery on the velvet, whether regular or hand made, is invariably of the highest quality, making our Chuppahs an aesthetic treat worthy of the ceremony. Different designs both customized and existing, modern or traditional are available. All of our Chuppahs are made in Jerusalem by various gifted artists with exquisite taste.
Feast your eyes and impress your guests with our quality Chuppahs. We would be happy to accommodate you with a variety of ready designs for the embroidery, or let you customize your own design. In either case we are certain the Chuppah of your choice will enrich the ceremony greatly.
